Extra April Post Full of STRESS
Honestly it's already going to be May and I have no idea where all of this time went. I'm so stressed and just ready to be done. When people said senioritis was a real thing I was skeptical until NOW. Who knew that I would be looking forward to a two hour presentation because it meant being done with senior year's work load. This isn't an educational extra blog post but it is an honest one! Gotta give me some credit, eh? PLUS I already have the info needed on my topic it's just a matter or putting it all together and tying it with a ribbon and turning it into a presentation.
Blog 19: Independent Component 2
LITERAL
(a) Write: “I, Justine Solorio, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 31 hours of work.”
(b) Cite your source regarding who or what article or book helped you complete the independent component.
I mentored with different detectives but all under Sgt. Saldecke's approval. I also mentored with Sgt. Alvarez.
(c) Update your hours in your Senior Project Hours link. Make sure it is clearly labeled with hours for individual sessions as well as total hours.
My mentorship hours log is completely updated.
(d) Explain what you completed.
I just did extra mentorship hours by going to the station and mentoring with different sergeants and detectives. I also spent quite a large amount of time with a dispatcher who used to work in forensic science and in the crime lab. I did an interview with him as well for personal records.
INTERPRETIVE
Defend your work and explain its significance to your project and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work. Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
I was able to work with law enforcement officials which gave me the sense of feeling like it was I who was doing the investigations. It was the kind of experience and feeling that absolutely no book nor article could give me the feeling. It impacted the outlook of my educational future as well as my career.

APPLIED
How did the component help you understand the foundation of your topic better? Please include specific examples to illustrate this.
I was able to work alongside these law enforcement officials and see what they do on the day to day basis and not whats primarily publicized. Meeting with Sgt. Alvarez especially helped because he had experience working in the crime lab with a forensic science background which is what I might be interested from here on out. These 38 hours were probably of the most enlightening throughout my entire senior project because it showed me that I don't think I want to be work on a federal level anymore. The hours the detectives for LASD do are extensive enough and I can only imagine investigation on a federal level is that much more.
